Speech Therapy
Deaconess Illinois Medical Center offers a number of speech therapy services with a wide variety of techniques and programs designed to help people communicate better. We consider treatment a collaboration: therapy staff works with physicians, dietitians and nurses to evaluate patients’ swallowing function and recommend safe feeding tactics when needed.
Deaconess Illinois Medical Center’s Speech Language Pathologists assess, treat and help prevent problems with speech, language, cognition, communication, voice, fluency and swallowing. Therapy staff provides collaborative care by working with physicians, dietitians and nurses to evaluate patients’ swallowing function and recommend safe feeding tactics when needed.
Speech therapy can employ many methods and approaches, including Vital Stim and Modified Barium Swallow Studies.
Common conditions treated include:
- Dysphagia (difficulty swallowing)
- Fluency Disorders (stuttering)
- Language Delays
- Speech Delays (articulation)
- Cognitive issues including memory, thought organization, and problem solving
