Hematology and Oncology

Caring for Blood Cancers

Oncology encompasses the diagnosis and treatment of cancer while Hematology is the study of blood and blood diseases. So the combination of these two specialties focuses on cancers of the blood including Leukemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma.

Being referred to a hematologist oncologist by your primary care provider or hematologist most likely means you have symptoms that might point to some type of blood cancer. Testing provided by a hematologist oncologist will either confirm or refute the presence of cancer.

If cancer is detected, a hematologist oncologist will work with your other providers on a course of treatment.
